Kathmandu Boudhanath 04 Boudhanath Stupa From Entrance The 36m-high Boudhanath Stupa near Kathmandu is the largest stupa in Nepal, and one of the largest in the world. It is a religious centre for Nepal's considerable population of Tibetans. It supposedly dates from the fifth century. With three square tiers surrounding the central circle of the dome, Boudhanath is built in the form of a mandala, a symbol of the universe that is often used in Buddhist meditations.

On the left is Amitabha, the Dhyani Buddha of the west, and on the right Ratnasambhava, the Dhyani Buddha of the south.

Kathmandu Boudhanath 11 Tamang Gompa and Guru Lhakhang North Of Boudhanath Stupa Tamang Gompa and Guru Lhakhang is the fairly new gompa to the north of the Boudhanath stupa near Kathmandu. The entrance door flanked by the Four guardian Kings is on the top floor. A few pilgrims sit on the floor in front of statues of Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) in the middle with Avalokiteshvara on the far left and Buddha on the far right.
