Trekking and Travel Books

There are many series of trekking and travel books to choose from. My favourites are:

• Lonely Planet - my favourite travel guidebook series. I use them for every trip.
• Kev Reynolds - his trekking guidebooks for Cicerone are superb.

For books, in addition to Amazon, I use the following websites to find out-of-print or hard to find books.

• abebooks.com - the broadest selection
• chesslerbooks.com - experts in Mountaineering books
• topworldbooks.com - very good site for Mountaineering books

Although trekking books have some very good maps, I usually try and buy a 1:50000 map.

Travel and Photo Websites:

My favourite websites for references and travel information are:

For flights I always check with:

• travel.kelkoo.co.uk - for flights out of London
• travelocity.com

For Photos, the following photo sharing websites typically have some great photos:

For Mountains, the following are my favourite websites:

• explorersweb.com- a great news website on Everest, K2, and and many other mountains
• summitpost.org- good for most mountains, big and small
• wikipedia.org- good for most mountains. They also have a good List Of Climbers.

For Videos, youtube.com has videos on just about everything.

For all my travels, I use Google Earth to plan the trip. It's especially good for virtually walking the trek from the comfort of your seat at home. I also use Nasa which has some spectacular photos from space.

For weather I normally use Accuweather. For history of weather I use Wunderground.
