Swayambhunath near Kathmandu has a four-armed statue of Mahakala, the fierce manifestation of Avalokiteshvara, and the primary Dharmapala, or "Dharma protector" in Tibetan Buddhism. Mahakala holds a chopper in his central right hand and a skull cup in his left. He holds a flaming sword in his outer right hand and a trident-like khatvanga club in his outer left hand.
