I trekked from Lobuche over the Kongma La to Dingboche in 2008

Kongma La 01 Trail From Lobuche Crosses Khumbu Glacier And Climbs To Kongma La Gyan and I climbed the Kongma La while Chandraman, Pasang and Dumbar took the normal route via Dughla and Pheriche. It took us 45 minutes to cross the Khumbu Glacier from Lobuche to the bottom of the trail to the Kongma La. The trail to the Kongma La was fairly easy most of the way, hugging the left side with views to Pokalde, reaching the Kongma La (5535m) after 105 minutes.

The peak was named Island Peak in 1952 by Eric Shipton since it looked like an island in a sea of ice. Island Peak was first climbed in 1953 by a British team as a training exercise in preparation for Mount Everest. Tenzing Norgay was one of the members of this first ascent team.
