The road to Everest North Face was hacked out of the steep boulder strewn hill by the Chinese for their first ascent of the Everest North Face in 1960. The road followed a zigzag pattern to the Pang La pass (5250m), where Jerome Ryan had a panoramic view of Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, Gyachung Kang and Cho Oyu.
