I trekked to Gokyo in 2000 and 2008.

Gokyo 1 1 Gokyo And Cho Oyu, Gokyo Resort Gokyo (4750m) consists of a few lodges next to Dudh Pokhari, the beautiful blue third Gokyo Lake, with Cho Oyu (8201m) dominating the view at the end of the valley. I stayed at the very comfortable Gokyo Resort in 2000. The resort has a very good general store with many books and maps, and a nice sunroom.

Gokyo 1 2 Gokyo And Gokyo Lake With Cholatse And Taweche Gokyo (4750m) consists of a few lodges between Dudh Pokhari, the beautiful blue third Gokyo Lake, and the lateral moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier. Cholatse and Taweche dominate the view to the east.

About 200m from the top of the Nameless Fangs, there are enormous boulders; many much larger than me stacked one on top of the other at different angles. Without thinking of my safety, I jumped from boulder to boulder and did some rock climbing to reach the top. In retrospect, I don’t recommend you do this alone; it’s too easy to hurt yourself.

The little known Gyachung Kang (7952m), just 48m short of the magic 8000m mark, is the 15th highest mountain in the world. The mountain was first climbed on April 10, 1964 by Japanese climbers Yukihiko Kato, Kiyoto Sakaizawa and Pasang Phutar Sherpa. The first ascent of the North Face of Gyachung Kang (7952m) was done in pure alpine style with Slovenians Tomaz Jakofcic and Peter Meznar reaching the summit on October 31, 1999, and Andrej Stremfelj, Marko Car, Marko Prezelj, Matic Jost on the next day.
